Claire Chesnier
Catalog Talents contemporains 2011-2012 - Fondation François Schneider2015Veils of liquid-like colors stand out on large sheets of watercolor paper. A very precise creative process allows Claire Chesnier to bring out, with each new painting, the subtle interaction between form, color, light, and matter. Working on watercolor paper fixed to the wall and soaked with water, she spreads pigmented inks with broad brushstrokes within the boundaries of a predefined shape. The artist then intervenes again on this flow, obtaining iridescent and depth effects linked to the reactions between diaphanous areas of color and pigment crystals that appear on the surface of the paper.
This creative process, oscillating between mastery of pictorial means and the randomness of the fusion of materials, gives rise to infinite variations that the artist describes as “fragments of expanse.”
